Neville apart from owning a music business in Nelson, is one of the leading performing musicians in the Top Of The South region. A professional bassist / vocalist / keyboard player, he is in constant demand as a performer with local and visiting musicians and groups, encompassing all styles from Classic Pop through to Easy Listening Jazz Styles.

 

In a career spanning the 60’s until the present day, Neville (Nev) has done it all from Rock and Roll, Country, Pop, Classic Hits, Jazz, Swing, you name it. While he has a preference to “live” groups, he also performs with recorded backing tracks, though clearly his interest is in live entertainment with a “feel” for what every audience wants. Visiting musicians to Nelson regard their visit as incomplete without talking to Nev about what is happening, and when.

 

In over 35 years in the business, Nev has been directly associated in musical / technical roles with NZ Broadcasting Corporation, Television New Zealand, Radio New Zealand, EMI Studios to name just a few. His expertise includes working directly with major tour companies and stage in a technical role.  A few of these include David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Blood Sweat and Tears, Neil Diamond, Peter Frampton, Willie Nelson, Little River Band, Chuck Berry, BB King and countless others. As a qualified Piano Technician and Luthier he is regularly asked to work on instruments from everything in the Classical to Pop field for both local and visiting artists.

 

As an ex brass and woodwind player, Nev was a member of   Woolston Brass Band in the early 60's playing both cornet and tenor horn. A brief stint on harmonica saw him take out the NZ Chord/Rhythm Harmonica Title in 1962 after just a few months experience.  Years of dance band playing with his father played a huge part in gaining confidence on most wind instruments before switching to the 60's revolution on electric bass.

 

It is this experience that enables Nev to fulfill virtually any task that comes his way, accurately and with confidence.
